    The challenge

    Need for innovation: Due to the growth of cloud solutions, the existing software authorization package was no longer adequate. The school needed a new IAM solution that met their needs and vision for access.

    Implementing role-based authorization: The transition to Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) required a rethink of the authorization process within Koning Willem I College. Thinking had to shift to a role-based approach.

    Future-proof IAM: Striving for a future-proof IAM solution and addressing new developments, such as Self-Sovereign Identity, presented challenges for the implementation and further development of SmartID.

    Optimizing access and collaboration

    Access Vision and Collaboration

    King Willem I College developed a clear access vision, in collaboration with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), which served as a guide in the search for a new IAM solution. SmartID was chosen based on its similarity to Access Vision, the RBAC model, and the flexibility of its integrations with external SaaS applications.

    Integration Layer for Flexibility

    An integration layer was implemented between SmartID and source systems, such as the HR system, ensuring flexibility even when replacing source systems.
