    Immense site of 65 hectares

    One of Europe's largest tank storage companies, Odfjell Terminals Rotterdam, uses GuestID from Oribi. The ID of every visitor to this vast 65-hectare site is scanned and automatically verified. During the scanning process, the document and personal data are read and entered into the software. This ensures that visitors are processed quickly and with the correct information. After the scan, the company security personnel only need to enter the number of the access pass given to the visitor. Behind the scenes, the visitor's information is linked to the access pass. When leaving the site, the visitor simply presents their access pass to a pass holder, and they are automatically registered as no longer present.

    Odfjell is required to comply with the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS). The ISPS certificate was established after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The purpose of the ISPS is to prevent terrorist attacks on high-risk companies. Rob Rietveld: “This code stipulates that we must be able to prove who is on the premises at any time of the day, even at night. We are also required to check IDs. Because of this, I impose certain requirements on my security staff. I believe it's important to provide them with the right tools. GuestID is one of them. You can't expect a security staff to recognize all the documents in the world, let alone be able to check them. Fortunately, with GuestID, we've found a suitable solution.”

    Speed

    Checking documents for visitor registration is a crucial part of implementing the ISPS code. For many companies, this shouldn't come at the expense of business operations. Odfjell processes many visitors daily, and it's crucial that they are registered quickly, correctly, and securely. "We process more than 100 visitors of various nationalities every day. Previously, the visitor list was filled out manually. This was extremely time-consuming, and the handwritten names were often illegible. Partly due to the tightening of the code, we switched to scanning IDs.

    We previously used a different scanning solution, but it had two drawbacks. The data from, among other things, Dutch driver's licenses wasn't being read, and the system couldn't be linked to our access control system. At the time, I asked my security solutions provider, Piet van Leenen of Access Control Europe, to find a solution. He succeeded with the discovery of GuestID from Oribi." GuestID can check more than 8,500 different IDs worldwide, including driver's licenses. The data is automatically processed into the software as it scans.

    Connection with SALTO

    Odfjell has been using the SALTO access control system for several years to control and manage various barriers, gates, and doors. SALTO allows users to assign various permissions to passes, and they can see who is in which room. "Previously, we used separate emergency lists: one from SALTO and one from visitor registration. GuestID ensures that these lists are combined. Visitors are now automatically registered in SALTO through the integration with GuestID. Oribi has met our needs and requirements perfectly. Now, even the company name and license plate number of the visitor are entered from GuestID into SALTO," says Rob Rietveld.

Visitors are registered quickly, and another major advantage is that they no longer need to sign out upon departure. When leaving the premises, the visitor simply presents their access pass to a pass holder, and the barrier opens automatically.
